A Guide to Hexes, Curses, and Spells: the how to, where to, when to, and why in Merlin’s name to
by the Lord and Lady Hex
Harry: Greetings, fair folk. And welcome to…
Niamh: Our little guide.
Harry: NI!
Niamh: What?
Harry: I thought I was doing the introduction.
Niamh: Sorry to disappoint you. *smirk*
Harry: *snort* HA! You haven’t ever been sorry about a thing you’ve ever done.
Niamh: That’s not true!
Harry: Sure its not. Anyway, I’m Harry Potter – also known as the Lord Hex.
Niamh: And I’M Niamh O’Feir. That’s pronounced “Neev” by the way but if you can’t handle that,
just call me “Ni.” Oh and I’m the Lady Hex.
Harry: But we’re not a couple, despite those nicknames.
Niamh: How did we get those names anyway?
Harry: Gred and Forge.
Niamh: *rolls eyes* Silly gits.
Harry: Humpf. Moving on, this is our little book of hexes and curses and spells that we’ve made up
in our years at Hogwarts.
Niamh: A few are VERY dangerous.
Harry: Very much so. I advise using caution.
Niamh: And not letting any Dark Wizards get hold of this book.
Harry: Yeah, that too. Imagine Voldemort getting hold of some of the stuff we’ve made up.
Niamh: *shudder* Don’t even suggest that, Harry!
Harry: *smirk* Too late.
Niamh: Bugger. Anyway, we’ve got a lot of stuff to cover so I guess we’d better start.
Harry: Now that’s the smartest thing you’ve said this entire time.
Niamh: *pulls out wand* Say that again and I’ll use the Decollotus Curse on you.
Harry: But then where would you be without my streetwise ways? *smiles tauntingly*
Niamh: *scowls and sheaths wand* You sneaky little street rat.
Harry: I am not a rat! You must be confusing me with Wormtail.
Niamh: Can we just go?
Harry: Yeah, if you want to be so testy. HERE WE GO!
Niamh: *shoves Harry* Don’t yell in my ear.
BY TYPE
Harry: Okay. Here’s where we explain the spell types and stuff.
Niamh: Yes, you need to know these. How else will you what spell is what?
Harry: A very good point, Lady.
Niamh: Thank you, Lord.
Harry: Off we go now!
(( when talking together in paragraph, Harry is in regular text, Niamh is in ~'s ))
Spells: Generally spells are non-dangerous. ~Ours are. But, y’know, spells can be dangerous.~
Like what, dear Lady? ~Say Wingardium Leviosa. You could levitate someone and then release the spell and…
*she drops her hand and makes a low whistle before a loud boom*~ Well, yes, but the spell was never intended
to be dangerous. ~So that’s our spell definition? Something that isn’t inherently dangerous but can be?~
*smiles* I believe you have read my mind.
Hex: ~I think everyone knows that these babies can be dangerous.~ I should think hexes in general
are insulted. ~Why?~ You just called them babies. ~Figure of speak, silly goose. Anyway, hexes CAN be
harmful…~ But certainly not death causing. ~DON’T INTERRUPT ME!~
Curse: All of these are dangerous. ~Yep. Cruciatus Curse, Killing Curse, Decollotus Curse…very
dangerous.~ Not always VERY dangerous. But they do generally cause death. ~And mayhem and destruction.~
Yeah, that too.
BY SUB TYPE
Niamh: Sub types? Why did we put these in?
Harry: So people could know the level of damage done by each spell, curse, or hex.
Niamh: Right. This was your idea, wasn’t it?
Harry: Yeah. As if you could come up with something this brilliant. *beams in an annoying fashion*
Niamh: If you start acting like Lockhart, I’ll knock all of your bloody teeth out.
Harry: But its so much FUN to annoy you…
Niamh: *growl* Braggart.
Harry: *beams* Thank you.
Random: There just has to be some randomness in life. ~There’s already enough randomness in
our lives.~ *snorts* Yeah, sure. And Voldemort continually popping up every once in a while to have
another go at me is random. Assuredly, yes, I believe that. ~Must you be so sarcastic when you say that?~
*looks appalled* I’m a Snape. I’m supposed to be sarcastic. ~*sigh* Anyway, random spells. They don’t do
any harm.~ To our knowledge.
Revealing: ~I think this speaks for itself.~ No, Ni, we have to explain it very slowly and
point-blankedly. ~Harry?~ Yes, Ni? ~Shut up.~
Healing: ~Another that speaks for itself.~ Unless, of course, you’re an idiot. ~HARRY!~ Hey,
Crabbe and Goyle could be reading this! ~*blinks* They can read?~ Well surely they don’t just pass on
sympathy. ~Good point.~
Defensive: To defend yourself from the forces of evil! ~Or a back-stabbing Slytherin.~ *scowl*
Leave Malfoy out of this. ~I didn’t say anything about Malfoy!~ Suuure, you didn’t. ~*frown*~ These can be
used to defend yourself or friends. Just don’t get those two mixed up if your stuck in the middle of a pack
of Death Eaters trying to kill you. ~Only you would be in that situation, Harry.~ Well, you never know…
Offensive: ~Here’s were the fun begins.~ Mmm. Only the Offensive subtype has subtypes. ~Why is
that exactly?~ Possibly because some do little harm, some maim, and some kill. ~Oh, yeah…~
Aw That Ain’t Dangerous: Not too harmful. ~And no
long-term damage. Two gifts in one package!~ You just sounded like a commercial spokesperson. ~Really?
Bugger.~
Mildly Dangerous: ~No death.~ But possibly some
broken bones. ~Just a few.~
Real Dangerous: Maybe long-term damage. ~People do
die sometimes.~ Well, we don’t know that. ~Hey, the rats we tried these on did.~ The only human that can
possibly be considered a rat is Wormtail. Oh, and the Dursley’s.
Oh Shit! Dangerous: I think the title explains it
all. ~You just had to get a normal curse in here, didn’t you?~ Of course. ~*sigh* Very dangerous spells.
Almost always fatal.~ Didn’t we have a rat explode one time? ~*moans and covers eyes* Harry, I didn’t
need to remember that!~ *grins*
Sweet Merlin, What Was That? Dangerous: ~The highest
level of danger we’ve got.~ Yep. Have one of these used on you and you’re heading for the bright light
in the sky. ~Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.~ *stares blankly* ~I must introduce you to Monopoly,
my friend.~

Harry: Right. Anyway, this is it! It’s the end. We’re done, we’re through, we’re over.
Niamh: Finished, finito, fine! And that Fin-Ay not FINE.
Harry: Eh?
Niamh: It’s a musical term. Means end.
Harry: Where’d you learn that?

Harry: Since when?

running about?
